My name is Heidi Lee, I am a National Board Certified Teacher and career educator of over 25 years. I have taught students with a wide variety of abilities and disabilities in grades 6-12. In addition to teaching, I have held leadership positions at both building and district levels in the public school system. My prior roles include Academic Coach, Teacher Mentor, Director of Professional Development, Assistant Principal, and most recently the Director of College/Career Readiness and CTE for QCUSD as well as National Board Certified Teacher mentor to QCUSD teachers.
I also have experience in the public school system as a parent of four sons, three of whom have already graduated. One of my sons currently attends a QCUSD Elementary School where he has had an amazing experience and tremendous growth with the support of his team. Two of my sons learn differently than most and had a team of educators help meet their needs. I am passionate about advocating for all students to have their unique needs met in the classroom. All students, including my children and yours, have the right to a free and appropriate public education.
During my three years as an employee at QCUSD, I realized that a culture shift is necessary. Our district employs many very highly qualified teachers and administrators, who deserve the empowerment and support of their school board and district leaders to do their jobs with effectiveness and efficiency. If given the opportunity to serve the Queen Creek community, I will focus on fostering that culture shift, specifically building stakeholder confidence and trust in the organization. I would like to see the strategic plan of the district reimagined by including all stakeholders, including parents, students, staff and community .In addition, we need to look more carefully at the results: what do our graduates know, what skills do they have, and where can they go from here? Are we able to retain employees and grow their practice to increase our results? With the right leadership and support, QCUSD has the ability to not only be an excelling district, but according to the Arizona Department of Education, we can be a contender in the Nation. It’s time to take QCUSD to the next level.
I believe the arts stimulate a life of learning.
